Chicago Office Movers with Unpainted Ducks

Chicago Office Movers Helps Move Ducks to the Mag Mile

Chicago Office Movers Helps Move Ducks to the Mag Mile

Summer in Chicago promises to be just-ducky! Residents and tourists can expect to see 25 brilliant yellow duck sculptures throughout downtown and in surrounding communities. But positioning these large sculptures takes muscle power—a job professional movers handle with expertise.

What is Ducks on the Mag Mile?

Duck Painting with ArtistsThe city’s special showcase is known as Ducks on the Mag Mile. The public art is commissioned by local and national artists, many with disabilities. The giant duck sculptures are on display along North Michigan Avenue and nearby areas from June 15 through August 9, 2020.

Massive duck sculptures feature multi-colored hues and extravagant designs. Visitors to the event can expect to see a range of spectacularly painted ducks, including those with titles, like Doodle Duck, We are Better Together, Together We Rise, We Are All Special and Stronger, Happier Together.

Special Olympics Illinois is behind this illustrious project. The Make Corporation, the Magnificent Mile Association, businesses and individuals also support this unique and artistic Chicagoland endeavor. The Ducks on the Mag Mile serve two important purposes: one celebratory and one promotional.

Firstly, the Ducks on the Mag Mile is intended to celebrate inclusivity. Those with disabilities are especially celebrated and recognized through the project. Secondly, Special Olympics Illinois’ August 6th fundraiser, Chi Ducky Derby, is promoted via the organizers’ collaborative efforts.

The Special Olympics is a familiar, global movement that aims to celebrate people’s various abilities—rather than their disabilities. Sports, leadership, community building, health and education are all pathways through which Special Olympics participants empower themselves and grow in confidence.

Once the Ducks on the Mag Mile event ends on August 9, the picture-perfect duck sculptures will be sold on public auction. Proceeds from the sales will go to the 23,000 Special Olympics Illinois athletes; 80 percent of raised funds go to Special Olympics Illinois programs.

How Does Chicago Office Movers Help?

The duck sculptures—being three-to-four-feet wide and tall—are bulky and weighty. Professional handling is required to ensure these delicate yet enormous works of art remain intact from their original locations in the artists’ studios to each designated spot on the Magnificent Mile and nearby areas.

1. Coordination Services

Chicago Office Movers crews use professional moving equipment and trucks when relocating large items, including delicate artwork. Our team coordinates the relocation of the ducks by first creating a customized moving plan and then following through to make sure each duck stays stunning and intact.

2. Assembly Services

Chicago Office Movers with Unpainted DucksSafely transporting 25 immense ducks from point A to point B takes more than planning. Chicago Office Movers also provides assembly services. Each duck sits on a large, wooden base, which we move separately and then install onsite on the Mag Mile.

3. Installation Services

Our crews have years of installation experience, so moving the ducks and assembling them onsite in the city will be as seamless as can be. Chicago Office Movers specialists also work closely with organizers to help make the relocation of the ducks as efficient as possible.

4. Tracking and Inspection

Twenty-five large-scale art pieces should be tracked. At Chicago Office Movers, our team creates a detailed inventory list to keep track of every duck included in this major, citywide project. A careful inspection of each item is also included to ensure all 25 ducks are ready for public display.

5. Decommissioning Artwork

Once the Ducks on the Mag Mile event comes to a close, Chicago Office Movers crews will be prepared to decommission the artwork. Moving crews will carefully disassemble the duck sculptures from the wooden bases and safely transport them out of the city limits.

6. Secure Storage Space

Since the duck sculptures will be sold on public auction, organizers will need storage space to house the ducks until they are ready to be presented at auction. Our dedicated storage facility is ideal for temporarily housing large objects, like the Ducks on the Mag Mile.

Chicago Office Movers' storage facilities take the guesswork and stress out of knowing where to securely house the ducks once the event is over. Our 60,000 square foot climate-controlled storage facilities temporarily store a wide variety of large equipment, furniture as well as artwork.

Event organizers can be confident that the ducks will remain secure and in good condition while housed in our storage facilities. Once the ducks are sold on auction, our moving crews are available to pack, load and transport the ducks from the storage facilities to their final destinations.

7. Licensed Movers

Working with professional movers is key to a successful move, especially when transporting delicate works of art. Each Chicago Office Movers team member is licensed, bonded, insured and certified, which gives our customers extra peace of mind. We also have years of professional relocation experience.

Renovating Event Venues to Accommodate Social Distancing

Fans watching football game at stadium

The novel coronavirus has caused massive societal upheavals, deaths in the hundreds of thousands and illness in over 15 million people worldwide. The public health crisis has an uncertain future. One thing is definite: social distancing helps to curb the spread of COVID-19.

About COVID-19

Remaining at least six feet apart from people in public places has been shown to reduce transmission rates of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Ample distance ensures that potentially infected human respiratory droplets do not reach the respiratory systems of others and cause illness.

Talking, coughing, and sneezing emit respiratory droplets and allow the particles to linger in the air for up to three hours. If the individual is sick with COVID-19, the infectious particles can invade the respiratory system of a person in close proximity and lead to mild or severe infection.

As a result, social distancing has become the norm, at least for now. Until a cure or effective treatment for COVID-19 is developed, social distancing mandates will continue throughout societies nationwide and worldwide. Social distancing will have a profound effect on public and private events.

How Event Venues Accommodate Social Distancing

Maintaining social distance is not an easy task. Event attendees are accustomed to packed stadiums and concert halls. These venues are undergoing drastic changes. Weddings and private ceremonies held in community centers, churches, or banquet halls, will also be different during the COVID-19 era.

Sports ArenasUnited Center Blackhawks

Sports arenas will no longer be filled to maximum capacity. Stadiums limit capacity to 17 to 20 percent of what the arena is built to hold. Dire reductions in capacity will have an adverse effect on stadium revenue since incoming funds offset the costs of operational debt and retaining employees.

If the COVID-19 pandemic exceeds a year, sports teams will be forced to consider making permanent changes to fan seating. Long-lasting adjustments can affect capital investments. A fixed solution, such as removing seats, however, would allow for adequate social distancing.

A short-term approach would be to temporarily take out the seats. Modifying arenas using this tactic is cost-efficient and practical. Loge box seating, which is where four seats are separated from surrounding ones by six feet, would follow social distancing rules.

In addition to changing seating arrangements to accommodate social distancing, sports arenas are implementing cashless payments and online concessions ordering. Hygiene practices are receiving an overhaul, as arenas install touchless doors and automated technology to prevent person-to-person contact between fans and staff.

Movie Theaters

Movie theaters are responding to the coronavirus outbreak by showing movies on the same night and on multiple screens. Capacities are limited inside movie theaters to ensure moviegoers maintain proper social distancing. The safety of customers and staff is the number one priority.

AMC, Regal and Cinemark, which are among the nation’s largest theater chains, have closed in response to governmental advice and the coronavirus pandemic. But movies have been around for decades, and the current health crisis will not stop people from enjoying shows on the silver screen.

The resurgence of drive-in theaters demonstrates just how resilient moviegoers are. Drive-in theaters give film buffs the opportunity to be entertained while remaining more than six feet apart and avoiding the slightest possibility of microbial transmission. Bargain ticket prices make drive-in theaters even more enjoyable.

People who have never visited a drive-in are flocking to the outdoor movies. Drive-in moviegoers wear masks and queue up at proper distances at the snack bars. Drive-in theaters are one surefire way to escape being stuck at home and give businesses a chance to turn a profit.

Music VenuesSydney Opera House Theater

Music venues are resorting to guidelines established by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to review operational plans. In venues that can hold a maximum capacity of 300, only 75 people are allowed inside for the duration of the coronavirus pandemic.

Bands that play to huge crowds may now open to groups of no more than 50. Virtual entertainment is taking center stage for the time being, as the coronavirus makes safe social gatherings impossible. Virtual events include live streaming of local concerts and even the much-needed comedic shows.

While the majority of event venues are closed due to the COVID-19 health crisis, some are taking advantage of the situation. Renovations are being done behind closed doors. Repainting, replacing chairs, adding drop ceilings, and replacing lighting are efforts to help improve event venues.

The coronavirus pandemic will not last forever, and entertainment venues are looking forward to the day when they can welcome back sports fans, movie buffs, concert attendees and theater goers. Those renovating hope to make their space more welcoming and user-friendly for patrons upon their return.

Commercial Cleaning Checklist Before Moving

Commercial Cleaning Services

Business owners who are prepared to relocate may have a desire to perform a commercial cleaning prior to the big day. Commercial cleaning is appropriate for whisking away the dust, grime and stains that accumulate over the course of several weeks or months in an office environment.

Commercial cleanings are intended specifically for business spaces. Cleaning crews access hard-to-reach spaces, ensuring that the whole office is sparkling clean in every nook and cranny. What results is a professional deep clean. Before moving, refer to this commercial cleaning checklist.

1. Cubicles

Professional-Moving-Services

Many office workers keep their desks tidy without prompting. A few, however, will require a nudge in the right direction. Prior to moving, hire commercial cleaning crews to engage in deliberate cleaning practices that go beyond the scope of what employees are able and willing to handle.

Dusting is a basic cleaning step that should be performed. Rather than spread the dust particles into the office atmosphere, use a damp cloth to grab the dust. Alternately, make electrostatic or microfiber dusters available. Target dust magnets, like file cabinets, electronics and office equipment.

The HVAC vents should undergo dusting to prevent pollutants, like spider webs and dirt particles, from cascading through them. Wipe down the windows, which, if not cleaned often, will likely have formed an obstructive layer of dust. The blinds, shades and windowsill should receive ample attention.

Once the dust is cleaned up, disinfect the surfaces with disinfectant wipes. Specifically aim to disinfect the phone and its earpieces, keyboards, desks and chair arms. Empty the office trash receptacles. Wipe down the trash cans with a disinfectant and replace the liners with fresh ones.

2. Kitchen and Break Room

Office personnel should be given notice that the fridge will be cleaned out before moving day. After notification has been given, empty the refrigerator of any unclaimed food or containers. Using a disinfectant, wipe down the empty refrigerator shelves. Use a disinfect to wash the countertops.

The countertop will likely be topped with kitchen gadgets, like a coffee maker and dish rack. Give the coffee maker a rinse. If employees have not already done so, wash any dirty dishes in the sink. Straighten out a messy kitchen countertop to achieve a presentable appearance.

The kitchen floors deserve attention, since the porous tile materials can trap grease. Sweep the floors to remove dirt and grime. Next, mop the floors with a cleaning solution. Replace the mop water as soon as it darkens; otherwise, the dirty mop water will spread the filth around the floor.

3. Bathroom

Restrooms often require elbow grease to achieve a hygienic status. Using a microfiber cloth, scrub all bathroom surfaces. Pay attention to cleaning and disinfecting even the smallest of areas, like stall handles and locks, as they are high touch spots that get covered in germs.

The toilets should first be flushed prior to cleaning and disinfecting. Once the contaminants are flushed away, apply a toilet bowl cleaner to the inside rim and directly onto the bowl mop. After scrubbing the interior, allow the cleaning solution to sit for approximately 10 minutes for a deep clean.

Glass cleaners may be used to polish the mirrors without leaving unsightly streaks. Empty the trash receptacles and sanitary napkin dispensers. An important component of bathroom maintenance is refilling the soap dispensers, toilet paper and paper towels. Mop the floors with a disinfectant solution.

4. Reception

Commercial-Property-Office-Interior

The reception area sparks guests’ first impressions. Preserve its cleanliness with cleanings several times throughout the day as well as before moving. To start, any existing welcome mats and front door décor should be straightened out for an immaculate presentation.

Using a glass cleaner, wipe down the glass front doors on the inside and outside. Empty the waste bins, disinfect them and replace the liners. The reception counter and desk must be wiped down with disinfectant. Existing furniture, such as a coffee table, should be similarly wiped down.

Various surfaces in the reception room should be scrutinized for dust. The vents, window shades, lamps, chairs and tables are typical areas that accumulate layers of dust if not cleaned regularly. Before moving, address these common areas. Remove fingerprints, cobwebs and dust from walls.

Guests will wipe their feet upon entering, leaving grime embedded in the carpet or welcome mat fibers. Vacuum the carpeting or mop the flooring. Keep in mind that frequent maintenance of the carpeting or hard flooring prevents dirt from entering the fibers or cracks, thereby extending their lifespans.

An effective commercial clean will fail to leave behind antiseptic smells. Even overpowering air fresheners are to be avoided. Heavily scented products can be problematic for people with respiratory conditions, like asthma. Good air quality or pleasant smells encourage relaxation and a positive response.
